David Zhvaniya’s political career started in 2002 when he was elected in the Verkhovna Rada of the fourth convocation. In 2005, Zhvaniya entered the government heading the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Later, in 2006, he was elected in the Parliament of the fifth convocation from “Our Ukraine” bloc, and after early termination of authorities of the VR of the fifth convocation in 2007, he entered the parliament as representative of the “Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense” bloc. In summer 2010, he formed and headed "Right of Choice" deputy group, which became the Christian Democratic Union party's representative in the parliament.
